Teaching profession Congo - The Committee for the upgrading of the teaching profession (CRPE), an umbrella group for teachers in Congo, rose from its meeting here Monday, saying its members would begin an indefinite strike on 25 February to press for the payment of outstanding wages and a special status.
In a communique issued after an extraordinary general meeting, the CRPE said the teachers were asking for the adoption and publication by the government of their special status and a 60% increase in wages.
They are also asking that the government should sign a Memorandum of Understanding on the full settlement of their pay demands.
“Many agreements for the upgrading of the teacher’s status are yet to be implemented by the Congolese Ministries of Finance and Public Service,' said the CRPE.
