Brussels, Belgium - The EU Commissioner for Development, Andris Piebalgs, Friday began a two-day working visit to Cape Verde, according to an EU communique issued here.
The communique said that during the visit, Piebalgs will announce EU's financial grant to Cape Verde, amounting to 55 million euros, for the 2014-2020 period.
He will attend a seminar on renewable energy, during which he will explain EU's technical assistance on renewable energy to the African country.
The implementation of the mechanism, he said, will enable Cape Verde to achieve its production target of 50% of its energy needs by 2020.
Piebalgs will visit Cabeolica farmhouse, the first wind power project in Africa which is expected to raise Cape Verde's renewable energy to 25%.
