Indian national gets 26 years for drug trafficking

Port-Louis, Mauritius - An Indian citizen, Ishtyaque Ahmed Mushtaque Ahmed Shaik, has been sentenced to 26 years in prison for drug trafficking in Mauritius, PANA learnt from judicial sources Thursday.

Shaik, 35, was arrested 21 Oct. 2008 while trying to hide 136.9 grammes of heroine in a cupboard at the guest house where he was staying.

Drug trafficking attracts severe punishment in Mauritius, where many foreigners have been jailed for the crime.
