The Spanish Ambassador to Congo, Antonio de Maxarambroz Bernabeu, on Friday announced that the Spanish private company, Toxa, which specializes in forest management, will help Congo manage its forests, PANA learnt here from the Congolese ministry of Forestry and Sustainable Development.
This indication was given Thursday at the end of a meeting between Congo’s Forestry, Sustainable Development minister, Henri Djombo, and a Spanish delegation, led by Mr. Bernabeu.
“We discussed several topics with the minister especially on how best we can help Congo manage its forests,' the Spanish diplomat said, adding the Spain will also help Congo in the areas of tourist ecosystem and forestry certification while addressing the issues of poaching and deforestation.
Congo's vast forests, mainly located in the northern part of the country, cover over 8 million hectares of land.
