Armoured vehicles to secure eastern region in Libya

Libya deploys 25 armoured vehicles to secure eastern region - In an attempt to secure its eastern region, the Libyan defence ministry Wednesday deployed 25 armoured vehicles and army transport cars to Benghazi.

A spokesman of the Libyan army, Colonel Ali Al-Cheikhi, said the Panther II armoured vehicles and military transport cars will be positioned in east Libya to allow for quick response to any form of aggression or violence.

He said the development was in line with the Libyan army’s plan to secure the entries and exits of the eastern region during the celebration of the second anniversary on 17 February revolution that overthrew Colonel Mouammar Kadhafi.

The State-of-the-art armoured cars will, according to Colonel Al-Cheikhi, play an important part in securing the most volatile regions of the country.

PANA reports that security has been beefed up in Libya’s major cities ahead of the 17 February celebration.
