French container shipping company CMA/CGM to open subsidiary in Mauritania - CMA/CGM, a French container shipping company based in Marseille, France, is to open a subsidiary in Mauritania, a senior official of the company said on Tuesday in Mauritania's capital city, Nouakchott.
Jean-Philip Thenoz, Managing Director of Groupe/Réseau Agences Groupe, told journalists that the decision was based on 'the sea freight potential that the country offers, especially in refrigerated goods and fish exports'.
'It will give Mauritanian importers and exporters alternative solutions through new transport options along with good, regular and timely services,' he added.
The project also includes the Nouadhibou deep water port in northwest Mauritania to be built in the next five years.
'In the framework of our maritime transport activities, we could use this city as a hub in West Africa', Mr Thenoz said.
At the moment, the company is using Morocco's Tangier port as a sea freight hub for West Africa.
The company, which took over the DELMAS group 10 years ago, operates 10 per cent of its business in Africa.
Ranking as the third largest world operator in sea transport, CMA/CGM has 469 ships and a turnover of US$16 billion.
It operates in 169 countries all over the world.
