Smartphones giants Samsung, Nokia and Blackberry - The mobile revolution has triumphed in Nigeria and now needs regular and industry driven peer-acknowledged awards to highlight the best successes and point the way towards the future, Group Executive Publisher of MobileWorld magazine, Mr. Akin Naphtal, has said.
According to Naphtal, smartphones giants like Samsung, Nokia and Blackberry would slug it out at the maiden edition of Mobile Innovation Awards(MIA) instituted by MobileWorld Magazine to recognise excellence in the telecoms industry and its various dimensions.
'The award which is scheduled to hold in March in Lagos was created to promote excellence in mobile technology in Nigeria as well as recognise the achievements and accomplishments in the telecom industry. It will spotlight mobile operators, VAS providers, ICT companies and banks pushing boundaries and shaping the industry,' he said.
According to him, the awards will focus on, organisations, projects and technologies that have excelled in the use, development and deployment of exceptional product and services in the mobile space.
'The awards night offer a unique opportunity for industry leading personalities to network with peers and celebrate the achievements of the telecoms sector in improving the Socio-economic development of Nigeria,' he added.
Naphtal further stated that the MI awards acknowledges Nigeria as a key hub of the world's mobile & telecom market in terms of penetration and innovation, and promotes the best of mobile-based implementations in the continent.
He added that Nigeria is not only an investment haven for investors but also emerging a testing ground for product innovations.
He pointed out that MIA will spotlight mobile operators, VAS providers, ICT companies and banks pushing boundaries and shaping the industry.
