Pope’s resignation - A spokesman for the Rwandan Catholic Church, Smaragde Mbonyintege, on Tuesday said that the unexpected resignation of Pope Benedict XVI came as a heavy blow for the whole Catholic community of Rwanda.
In an exclusive interview with PANA, Mbonyintege said he hoped the new Pope would be able to carry out successfully the activities of the Catholic church while lamenting the departure of Benedict XVI whom, he said, would be remembered as a man of competence and great honesty.
His resignation, however, will not cause crisis within the Catholic Church, he said.
PANA recalls that 60% of Christians living in Rwanda are Catholics.
