2013 Kenya Golf Open - SuperSport has announced a lucrative partnership with the 2013 Barclays Kenya golf Open, worth Sh 56 million, for the coverage of the European Challenge Tour event.
Under the agreement, the World of Champions will produce the golf tournament on behalf of title sponsors Barclays.
SuperSport will fly golf production experts from South Africa to Nairobi to oversee the production of the tournament, said Farida Limo, in charge of marketing and communications at the SuperSport office in Nairobi.
The production will be edited to a 52-minute show that will be aired on SuperSport a week after the 13-17 February tournament being hosted at the Karen Golf and Country Club.
“We will also run daily updates on our rotating news channel, Blitz for the duration of the event that has grown to become a highlight of the sporting calendar not only in Kenya but also the entire East and Central African region,” Andre Venter, SuperSport’s Head of Africa, said.
The Barclays Kenya Open is the second tournament on the 2013 European Challenge Tour schedule and returns to the Karen Golf and Country Club, Nairobi, for the first time since 2008 after being played at the Muthaiga Golf Club in the interim.
It will be the 21st staging of the event since it joined the European Tour 1991. The prize fund for this year’s edition is 195,000 euros.
At least 22 professionals and four amateur players from Kenya will feature.
Other African countries represented are South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Tanzania, Uganda and Rwanda.
