Conference on land ressource management - Experts from 19 African countries on Tuesday began a three-day Pan- African conference aimed at taking stock of the sustainable management of land resources and the protection of natural forests and ensure sustainable fisheries, official sources in Kigali told PANA.
According to organizers, the conference is considered as a positive step towards the harmonization of national policies pertaining to the sharing of agricultural lands and the legal reforms to be effected for their preservation.
The experts will share their views on the current situation whereby five per cent of agricultural lands in African were purchased or hired by international investors without taking into account the interests of local communities.
A report of the Global Fund for Agriculture and Food, issued in 1982, showed that foreign investments in agricultural lands in developing countries increased considerably during the last decade.
