Fiber-optic: Gabon, Congo sign fiber-optic agreement

Brazzaville, Congo - Congo and Gabon have signed an agreement on fiber-optic links to interconnect both countries.

The agreement was signed here Thursday by the Congolese Minister of Posts and Telecommunications Thierry Moungalla and the Gabonese Ambassador  in  Congo Barthelemy Ongayi, on the sidelines of the 'Build Africa' forum holding in Brazzaville, the Congolese capital.

Fiber-optic links allow telecommunications companies to transmit telephone signals, Internet communication, and cable television signals.

Optical fibers have largely replaced copper wire communications in core networks in the developed world.
