The 11th session of the Mauritania-Senegal Joint Commission began here Monday under the joint chairmanship of the Foreign Ministers of both countries, PANA reported.
Mauritania is represented by Foreign Minister Hamadi Ould Hamadi, while Mankeur N’Diaye, the Senegalese Foreign Minister, is representing his country.
Official sources told PANA the meeting is geared towards consolidating cooperation between the two neighbouring countries where inhabitants of the 700-kilometre border belong to the same ethnic and religious groups.
The meeting will discuss follow ups to the recommendations of the 10th session held in Dakar in August 2010.
That meeting recommended cooperation in the areas of energy, gas, transborder security, movement of people and goods, fisheries, transportation, agriculture, cattle-breeding and attempts to raise funds for the construction of the Rosso border bridge.
