Guinea army chief, 10 others perish in helicopter crash near Monrovia - Guinea’s Army Chief of Staff, General Souleymane Kelefa Diallo, was killed on Monday when a helicopter he was flying in crashed near Monrovia’s military airport, official sources told PANA here.
The crash left 10 others dead. They were part of a Guinean military delegation, led by the 50-year-old General Diallo, on its way to neighboring Liberia to attend a military parade.
The sources said that a search and rescue party is still ongoing at the scene of the crash.
The cause of the deadly crash is still unknown.
PANA recalls that in 2010, an aircraft belonging to the Guinean army crashed on the roof of the country’s national television after soldiers on board ejected from the cockpit.
