Africa: Belgian FM begins tour of 3 African countries

Brussels, Belgium - The Belgian Foreign Affairs Minister, Didier Reynder, Monday began a trip to Africa which will take him to Algeria, Mali and Cote d’Ivoire, according to an official communiqué released in Brussels.

The current crisis in Mali will dominate discussions during the visit.

PANA recalls that Belgium, backing French troops’ efforts to rid northern Mali of Islamist militants, has offered only logistical support, refusing to participate in the European mission's programme to train Malian army (EUTM).

A communiqué issued by EU’s States Council said a European mission with a 70-strong contingent, including officers, communication and infrastructure experts landed in Bamako at  weekend tasked to build the capacity of the crisis-torn West-African country army units.
