As part of the process of consolidating peace and sustainable development in Casamance, Southern Senegal, the Senegalese president, Macky Sall, has reiterated government's commitment to stabilize and modernize the region, according to a statement issued by the Council of ministers and received Thursday by PANA.
According to the statement, President Sall pledged on 28 June, 2012 in Ziguinchor, capital of Casamance, to modernize the region, a project aimed at organizing Senegal into viable territories for sustainable development by 2022 .
It said: 'To this end, funding to the tune of 23 billion FCFA from the World Bank and the Government of Senegal was secured for the project.'
It will help to revitalize the local economy by making rice farming profitable, speeding up access to rural areas with the construction of feeder roads and promoting employment, especially for youth and women.
Under the project, President Sall has called for the involvement of all peace-loving persons to enable his government achieve reconciliation, reconstruction and sustainable development in Casamance.
According to official sources, President Sall is billed to visit Ziguinchor in March to kick off the Casamance project.
