Burkina Faso has never won the tournament, while Nigeria is a two-time champion.
A capacity crowd is watching the match live at the 95,000-capacity National Stadium in Johannesburg, while millions more are watching on television sets around the world.
The central referee is Haimoudi Djamel from Algeria.
The winner of the tournament will get US$1.5 million, a trophy and a ticket to represent Africa at the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil.
