Chairman of Burkina Faso's Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Bartholomew Kéré Saturday in Ouagadougou, the nation's capital, called upon all actors in the country's electoral process to ensure credible and reliable elections.
The call came ahead of the opening of the by- election campaign on 17 Feb.
Calling for calm and restraint in order to preserve peace and social cohesion, Kéré said the elections would reflect the vitality of institutions and the establishment of democracy and the rule of law in Burkina Faso.
According to him, the elections require all actors in the electoral process to assume their responsibilities in a bid to improve, preserve and consolidate the country’s democratisation process.
In this regard, the INEC Chairman asked the actors to work to ensure credible and reliable elections.
Some 60 political parties and groups which took part in the contest of 2 Dec. 2012 will participate in the by-elections.
The elections were marred by a number of irregularities.
