Air and seaports closed to traffic as Cyclone Edilson threatens

Port-Louis, Mauritius - The Mauritian authorities have closed the seaport in Port-Louis and the airport in the south of the island to traffic until further notice as cyclone 'Edilson' marches towards the country, a PANA correspondent has reported from here.

The Mauritius Meteorological Services on Wednesday issued a cyclone warning, class III, saying that 'Edilson' was centred at about 370 km to the north-north-east of Mauritius at latitude 18.0 degrees south and longitude 59.6 degrees east.

Edilson, according to the Services, continues to move in a general direction towards the south at about 15kmh and is expected to reach the island in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Winds to the order of 100kmh are expected over the island early Thursday morning. The population is advised to stay indoors.
