Kadhafi regime's chemical weapons destroyed - Libya said Tuesday it had destroyed its entire stock of chemical weapons, including mustard gas, which was acquired by the country's former regime.
'This success is an important step in the fulfillment of commitments made ??by Libya under the conventions on chemical weapons,' Libya's Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Mohamed Abdel Aziz told journalists in Tripoli, the nation's capital.
He said that the destruction of the chemical weapons would contribute to the realisation of security and peace at both regional and international level.
'This success would not have been accomplished without the international community's support, including both logistical and technical assistance provided by the US, Canada and Germany. This operation has been conducted with utmost precision using highly advanced techniques with all required confidence,' the minister said.
He said a team of trained national experts, who had carried out the destruction of the chemical weapons stockpile, performed their duties under the supervision of international inspectors and in accordance with the conventions on chemical weapons.
