The African Union (AU) on Friday welcomed the new Government of National Unity in the Central African Republic (CAR), calling on partners to spare no efforts in implementing agreements reached in Libreville, Gabon, early this year.
According to an AU press statement, received here by PANA, 'The Chairperson of the AU Commission, Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, commends all the CAR Parties for their commitment and sense of compromise, and urges them to spare no effort in ensuring the scrupulous implementation of the Libreville Agreements of 11 January, 2013.'
It quoted Dr. Dlamini-Zuma as expressing AU's gratitude to the leaders of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) for their efforts, especially to President Denis Sassou Nguesso, Chairman of the Libreville Agreements Follow up Committee.
The release said Dr. Dlamini-Zuma has also welcomed the appointment of the Special Representative of the Chairman of the Follow up Committee in Bangui, in the person of General Noël Léonard Essongo.
It added that the AU Commission Chairperson also expressed AU’s gratitude to the United Nations for its assistance in the implementation of the Libreville Agreements, and pledged that the AU would continue to support the monitoring and implementation of the Agreement.
