Volleyball federation gears up for World Championships qualifiers

Nairobi, Kenya - Kenya is ready to host the African qualifiers for the 2014 World Championships for both men and women, the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) secretariat said Monday.

The men’s qualifiers, bringing together Kenya, Egypt, Cape Verde, Botswana and Zambia, will be staged at the Safaricom Arena in Nairobi, the Kenyan capital,  5-10 Feb.

The women’s qualifiers, set for 16-23 Feb. at the same venue, brings together Kenya, Tunisia, Seychelles, Mozambique, Cabo Verde and Uganda.

The qualifiers will represent Africa at the 2014 World Championships to be held in Poland (men) and Italy (women) later this year.

African champion Egypt arrived in Nairobi over the weekend and had its first training session at the Safaricom Arena on Sunday. Other teams will arrive in due course.

To ensure security for the qualifiers, the federation said it is working closely with state security agencies.

Entry fees have been waived to draw more fans to the venue.
