Cape Town, South Africa - Ahead of the final of the 2014 CHAN tournament in Cape Town on Saturday, FIFA President Sepp Blatter on Friday led a delegation that visited the home of the late former South African president, Nelson Mandela, in Johannesburg.
Mandela died at his home in December at the age of 95.
Blatter, together with CAF President Issa Hayatou, FIFA Secretary General Jerome Valcke and the president of the South African Football Association Danny Jordaan, had a private audience with Mandela’s widow, Graca Machel, and his former wife, Winnie Madikizela-Mandela.
“I had a lot of respect for him – for what he represents and stood for. Personally, I cannot put a price to what he has given me, what I learned from his life and during private moments with him,” Blatter said.
The delegation then left for Cape Town to attend the final of the 2014 CHAN tournament where Libya will face Ghana.
