2013 African Nations Cup finals in South Africa - Togo goes for history in quarter-final tie with Burkina Faso. Nelspruit, South Africa - Togo will be chasing history when they take on Burkina Faso here Sunday in the last quarter-final match at the 2013 African Nations Cup finals in South Africa.
To get to this stage of the 16-team competition, both Togo and Burkina Faso have performed beyond expectations.
Togo has never crossed the opening-round stage since first entering for the preliminaries of the competition in 1965 and reaching the final tournament in Cameroon in 1972.
South Africa 2013 is therefore their first time in the quarter-finals and they will be hitting a new target should the team win on Sunday.
For Burkina Faso, the team has crossed the first-round hurdle only once when it hosted in 1998, reaching the semi final.
On paper, Togo looks the better side, having beaten the Burkinabes in all the three times they have met.
Here's the table at a glance:-
