Results 2013 AFCON: Ghana Vs Cape Verde match

Ghana beats Cape Verde 2-0 to reach semi-final - Ghana on Saturday reached the semi-final of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in South Africa when she defeated Cape Verde 2-0 in Port Elizabeth.


Substitute Mubarak Wakaso scored both goals, the first from the penalty spot in the 54th minute when Asamoah Gyan was brought down in the box, and the second in injury time when he raced virtually unchallenged to slot the ball into the net after the Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha joined a last minute attack during a corner kick and left the posts empty.

But the Blue Sharks were not disgraced as they dominated the second half, especially after they conceded the first goal.

They attacked in waves and drilled holes in the Ghanaian defence but were denied by in-form Fatau Dauda, Ghana's goalkeeper, who saved several dangerous situations.

Ghana was sitting on tenterhooks in the final minutes as the debutant Cape Verdians, who surprisingly reached the quarter-finals, searched for another giant-killing result.

However, despite playing well below form, Ghana prevailed to reach the semi-finals

when the Cape Verde goalkeeper joined the attack as the team sought the vital equaliser to push the match into extra time leaving the goal post empty.
