Justice/DR Congo: 48 inmates escape from Congo Prison

Kinshasa, DR Congo - Forty-eight inmates of Lufalanga military prison at Nyongolo camp in DR Congo's commune of Kanshi have escaped, following last Friday's explosion that occurred at a munitions depot of the 5th military region in Mbuji-Mayi, in Kasaï-oriental, Interior Minister Hypolite Mutombo said.

The minister said the shells that landed on the prison blew off a part of the roof, giving the inmates the opportunity to escape.

Security agencies are currently on the trail of the escaped inmates.

The explosion of the ammunition depot caused 21 deaths and left 54 injured.
