Francophony: IOF's Diouf welcomes Tunisia's new Constitution

Brussels, Belgium - The General Secretary of the International Francophony Organisation (IOF), Mr. Abdou Diouf, has welcomed Sunday's adoption of a new Constitution by the Tunisian National Assembly.

'This is a major step in the process of the transition embarked upon in the last three years,' Diouf said in a statement received by PANA here Tuesday.

He said the new Constitution responds to the demands of the Tunisian people, 'who aspired to a real democracy as well as full respect of human rights and fundamental freedoms'.

Diouf urged the country's new leaders to organise 'inclusive, viable and transparent elections as soon as possible'.
