Housing project Niger - Nigerien President Mahamadou Issoufou on Tuesday laid the foundation stone for the construction of 1,000 housing units in Niamey, in partnership with the US Company Federal Group International.

The project is the first phase of a 5,000-unit housing project over the next five years, according to the Nigerien Minister of Urban Planning, Housing and Sanitation, Abdoulkarim Musa Bako.

The project will cost about FCFA 55 billion francs, or FCFA 11 billion annually for every 1,000 homes.

For the execution of the programme, the Federal Development Group will mobilize 70 per cent of the total amount while Niger will provide the remaining 30%, largely consisting of land.

The project will provide housing for about 10,000 citizens and create 15,000 direct employment, the minister said.
