Ghana-CAN 2012: Semi-final berth triggers celebration in Ghana

Accra, Ghana - Ghana erupted in joy on Sunday as the national football team, the Black Stars, pipped Tunisia 2-1 in a hard-fought quarter-final match at the ongoing 2012 Africa Cup of Nations. Vuvuzelas sounded, vehicle horns tooted and whistles were blown as the match ended in Franceville, Gabon.

"We've done well but we must step up our game against Zambia in the semi-finals," said Joe, who was clad in Ghanaian colours.

"It was a tough match but thank God we won. We're taking one match at a time,'' said another sports fan.

Many people were kept on tenterhooks, especially in the second half of extra time, after Andre 'Dede'Ayew put Ghana ahead in extra time.

Some fans also queried the performance of the referee who, they said, was openly biased against Ghana.

The victory boosted Ghana's chances to win its first Africa Cup of Nations title in 30 years. The West Africans last won the continental title in 1982, when they clinched their fourth title.

Ghana will next meet Zambia in one of the two semi-finals on Wednesday, while the other semi will feature Mali vs Cote d'Ivoire.
