Training-Gambia - The Association of Early Childhood Educators (ACCE), in collaboration with Future Training Foundation (FTF), on Wednesday organised a-one-day seminar for nursery school teachers at the Girl Guides Hall along MDI Road in Kanifing. The Training of Teachers (ToT) is aimed at improving teachers' knowledge on how to effectively handle early childhood education.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Babou Gaye Sonko, president of AECE, said that the association was founded in 1992 and is the parent body of all nursery schools in The Gambia. According to him, the association also publishes a lot of books for school children who are future leaders of the country. "If you want a good garden you must have a good nursery," he concluded.
Lisong Bah, director of (FTF), disclosed that Foundation was established in 2009 to help build the capacity of future childcare givers and ECD practitioners. She said that the objective of the project is to train teachers to teach children, and gave a brief background of the project in America and in The Gambia. "It is implemented through FTF in partnership with AECE, the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, ECD and NEA, so that we can reach our country point because target groups are the nursery school teachers and facilitators."
George Riegg, the project coordinator and manager, said that the training is important because it capacitates children of the future to use the environment prudently in order to help improve their livelihood, economic development and social well-being. "People are part of the environment and being more responsible will help all of us and the future generation," he stressed.
Kasim Touray from the Gambia College delivered the vote of thanks.
