The Gambian Police have turned down a request for a protest march by lawyers in Banjul, the Gambian capital, PANA confirmed from here. Lawyers, under the umbrella of the Gambia Bar Association (GBA) who are currently on seven-day stay-away from courts action, had intended to stage a “peaceful procession” on Monday, 10 October, as part of efforts to protest the imprisonment of their colleague, Moses Richards.
The procession was to have run from the Banjul High Court to Mile 2 Central Prisons on the outskirts of Banjul.
The GBA members are said to be busy meeting on Monday to map out their next line of action after their request for permit was turned down.
