Berlin, Germany - Nigeria pipped 2015 host Canada 1-0 in their final group A match at the ongoing FIFA Women's World Cup in Germany on Tuesday. Perpetua Nkwocha scored the goal in the 84th minute, shortly after the match resumed from an eleven-and-a-half-minute interruption caused by power failure at the stadium. While the victory allowed African champions Super Falcons to salvage some pride, after two straight losses at the competition, it made no difference to their fortunes, as the team has already been eliminated.
Nigeria finished third in the group, behind leader Germany (9 points) and France (6).
Africa's other representative at the competition, Equatorial Guinea, has also been eliminated, even though it has an outstanding group game against Brazil on Wednesday.
