Football-FIFA - The president of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), Prince Mohamed Bin Hammam of Qatar, is seeking Rwanda’s support for his candidacy to head the world's football governing body, FIFA. After a meeting with Rwandan Prime Minister, Bernard Makuza, Prince Hammam told newsmen of his intention to run for the presidency of FIFA. 'I think there are many changes to be made in FIFA’s administration. As a manager, I would like, if I am elected, to bring many innovations for the Rwandan football to move forward in order to achieve the desired international level,' said Hammam, who has been leading the AFC since 2002.
The prince arrived in Rwanda from the Central African Republic.
Current president of FIFA, Joseph Sepp Blatter of Switzerland, is said to be a close ally of President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame.
The election of the president of FIFA will be held in Zurich, Switzerland, on 1 June on the occasion of the 61st congress of the organization.
