Ravenna, Italy - Senegal, one of Africa's two representatives at the ongoing FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in Ravenna, Italy, lost its second group match to the host nation on Saturday, putting its quarter-final qualification in jeopardy.
The Senegalese, who beat Switzerland on penalties to win their opening group match, fell to Italy 3-2 also on penalties after both teams deadlocked 4-4 at full and extra time.
The hosts, who saw off Iran in their first group match, came out the better side against Senegal.
Italy will look to seal a quarter-final place against Switzerland on Monday, while Senegal will face Iran in their last group matches
Africa's other representative at the tournament, Nigeria, lost its opening group match to Russia.
Some 16 teams are participating in the 1-11 Sept FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup.
Brazil won the last four editions of the tournament.
