Female condoms - The United Kingdom (UK) has made available 5 million pounds to the UNDP to enable the organization purchase female condoms for distribution in developing countries.
Speaking on Thursday, the third day of the International Conference on Family Planning in Dakar, the Senegalese capital, Stephen O'Brien, the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for International Development at the UK Department for International Development (DFID), pledged Britain's commitment to support UNDP in improving health for women across the world.
'Currently, the only methods that can protect against HIV and unplanned pregnancy are the male and female condoms, but there are hopes that a number of technologies being developed, including the vaginal ring that releases both antiretroviral and contraceptives, will mitigate the situation,' O'Brien said.
