Nigeria at 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa - The ongoing 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa marked 19 years since a player from the Nigerian league kicked a ball at the continental tournament.
The last time was in the semi-finals of the 1994 edition, when former Iwuanyanwu Nationale defender Isaac Semitoje played for 74 minutes before he was replaced by Uche Okafor who was then with the ACB of Lagos.
Since then, the nearest a player of the Nigerian league has come close to featuring at Nations Cup was in 2010, when Togo listed two players from the Nigeria Professional League in its squad.
They were Chitou Rachad, a goalkeeper of Wikki Tourists and Akinsola Boussari of Enugu Rangers.
But Togo's withdrawal from the tournament, after the team suffered a deadly attack on its way to the tournament in Angola, meant that no player from the Nigerian league featured at Angola 2010.
At the current Nations Cup, Coach Stephen Keshi has listed six home-based players in the Super Eagles.
It remains to be see whether any of them will taste action.
