DRC's Senate President files nomination for presidential election - The Senate President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, who is also the leader of the Union of Forces for Change (UFC), Leon Kengo wa Dondo, Saturday filed his nomination papers for November's presidential election.

'I know the challenges of DR Congo, its potentials and its relations,' he said at the occasion. 'I know this country by working in the judiciary, the executive and the legislature. It's time for a man of my age to be able to put this experience and expertise in service of my country.'

Nominations for presidential and legislative elections, which began 18 Aug., will end on Sunday.

Candidates who have so far declared their intention to run for the country's highest office include Etienne Tshisekedi and François Nzanga Mobutu, son of the country's former dictator.
