CAN 2012 Football: Last set of quarter-finalists set to emerge Tuesday

2012 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea - The last set of quarter-finalists are set to emerge Tuesday at the ongoing 2012 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea. The contest for the two remaining slots are a three-way race involving Ghana, Guinea and Mali in group D.

The fourth team in the group, Botswana, has been eliminated, and will only be playing for honour when it takes on Mali Tuesday evening in Libreville, the capital of Gabon.

But the match is very important to Mali, as a win over the southern Africans will enhance its chances of advancing. Mali currently occupies third place on three points, same as Guinea.

The second match of the day will pitch group leader Ghana (on six points) against second-placed Guinea in Franceville.

Ghana, which earlier beat Mali and Botswana, needs just a draw against Guinea to qualify for the last eight.

The two qualifiers from the group will join six others - Zambia, Equatorial Guinea, Cote d'Ivoire,
Sudan, Gabon and Tunisia in the quarter-finals.

In the quarter-finals which are due to start on Saturday, Zambia will tackle Sudan while Cote d'Ivoire will meet Equatorial Guinea

The quarter-final opponents for Gabon and Tunisia will emerge after Tuesday's matches.
