Brussels, Belgium - Internationally-renowned filmmaker and Mali's former minister of Culture, Cheick Oumar Sissoko, has been named chairman of the jury which will award prizes at the film festival on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) currently on in Brussels, Belgium. Four films on Africa are among the 16 films in contention for the prizes at the festival which runs till Tuesday. There will 50 other films, not in the competition, which will be screened in various cinemas in Brussels. ddressing a press conference on Thursday, former Federal Minister of Belgium, Marie Arena, stressed the festival was aimed at informing the Belgian and European public of the challenges of the MDGs for developing countries.
Nearly 50 filmmakers from all parts of the world will take part in various events organized during the festival, including workshops, lectures and debates.
The biggest reward at stake is the 'Golden Goal', which is the festival's Grand Prize and the winner will receive a cheque for 2,000 euros.
The second prize, 'the Silver Goal', worth 1,500 euros, will be awarded by the UNDP representative.
Third prize, 'the Bronze Goal' or Best Human Rights Message, is worth 1,000 euros.
The Special Jury Prize, worth 1,000 euros, will be awarded to the author of the most original and innovative film and the fifth prize, the 'Audience Award', is also worth 1,000 euros.
