Army-Nigeria - Member of the Senate Committee on defence and army yesterday consulted with top army authorities on how to sustain the role of the army in internal security management. Chairman of the Committee Senator George Sekibo said one of the aims of the meeting was for the senate to assess the army's 2011 budgets and improve on it to enable the army to sustain their role in internal security management.
He also said the Committee will assess how the budget was implemented and ensure the forthcoming 2012 budget is planned and monitored.
He said the Senate requested the army to make input on the laws establishing the armed forces in an effort to remove obsolete sections and make improvement.
The Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Azubuike Ihejirika told the senators that the army will adopt all necessary measures to safeguard the security of the nation and respect constituted authorities.
