Cotonou, Benin - The Beninese army now has five new generals after the same number of senior officers were promoted to that rank Monday, as part of activities marking the celebration of the country’ s 51st independence anniversary.

The new generals are Adjoua Moumouni Mathias, Bio Ningu Baka Sero, Djinou Kojo, Sèwade Robert and Akpona Emmanuel.

During his first term, President Yayi Boni promoted six senior officers to the rank of general.
