Cote d'Ivoire: ECOWAS willing to back the parliamentary elections

Parliamentary elections Côte d'Ivoire - The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is willing assist Côte d'Ivoire in its parliamentary elections, the ECOWAS representative in the country, Abraham Doukouré, said on Wednesday.

Mr Doucouré, at the end of an audience with the chairman of the country’s independent electoral commission (CEI), Youssouf Bakayoko, said ECOWAS intended to support the parliamentary election, as it did in the presidential vote.

'We know about the needs and we particularly identified the means we will undertake to be useful on behalf of ECOWAS,' Mr Doucouré said.

In another development, Mr Doucouré said that ECOWAS would ensure that security and humanitarian issues were solved in the country.

The parliamentary elections are scheduled for late this year.
