Khartoum, Sudan - Twenty Sudanese troops have been killed and 30 others injured as the two buildings they were residing collapsed in El Geneina, West Darfur, the African Union/UN Hybrid Mission (UNAMID) said Wednesday.

The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) soldiers were killed following the collapse of the buildings as a result of heavy rain storms in the area.

UNAMID has assisted in the evacuation of the injured by providing a crane and other heavy-duty equipment for debris clearance.

UNAMID Head of Office in El Geneina and Sector West Commander visited the area of the incident and presented the mission’s condolences to the SAF 15th Division Commander, UNAMID said in a statement.
