Dakar, Senegal - 8 opposition candidates appeal against Wade's bid for 3rd term as Senegalese president - Eight presidential candidates in Senegal on Saturday appealed to the Constitutional Council to void the candidacy of President Abdoulaye Wade for the country’s presidential elections on 26 February.
Lawyer, Moussa Bocar Thiam, said he was 'optimistic', after filing a case on behalf of seven candidates -- Ousmane Tanor Dieng, Moustapha Niasse, Ibrahima Fall, Idrissa Seck, Macky Sall, Cheikh Bamba Dieye and Diouma Diakhaté -- that the case woulde suceed.
The seventh candidate, Amsatou Sow Sidibé, announced on the private Radio Future Media (RFM) that she would also file an appeal against Wade.
The Constitutional Council approved 14 applications, including that of the outgoing president, Abdoulaye Wade, and rejected those of the singer Youssou Ndour, Keba Keinde and Abdourahmane Sarr.
The approval given to Wade sparked protests across the country.
