Health - The Ministry of Health and Social Services (MoHSS) has announced a new treatment for hypertension called renal denervation therapy (RDT). The revolutionary procedure involves interrupting the tiny nerves that connect the kidneys with the brain, which cause the blood pressure to go down. This can be done safely without any operation, just by a small catheter introduced through an artery in the groin, according to Cardiologist at the Windhoek Central Hospital (WCH), Dr. Simon Beshir. Beshir explained that scientists established high blood pressure can be caused by faulty communication between the kidneys and the brain and added that the whole procedure is done under local anaesthetic for about 90 minutes.
