Education-Federal varsities-Nigeria - Federal Government has approved N3 billion through the Education Trust Fund for University of Port Harcourt, UNIPORT. President Goodluck Jonathan, who disclosed this yesterday while speaking at the convocation ceremony of the university, assured that his administration would continue to take steps to develop university education in the country. The president who spoke through his vice, Architect Namadi Sambo, charged graduates in the country to learn to apply their entrepreneurial skill for self development, noting that they should not only seek employment. He said his administration would promote public, private partnership with an intention to raise the quality of university education in the country.
While urging universities in the country to come up with solution solving researches, Jonathan said they would continue to enjoy government support to play their roles in national development.
On the recently established nine federal universities, he explained that government took the decision because of the importance of university education in the country.
The first lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, celebrated novelist, Elechi Amadi, Bamanga Tukur were among five persons conferred with honorary doctorate degrees at the event by the university.
