Cairo, Egypt - Egypt's prosecutor-general has ordered the detention of former President Hosni Mubarak and his two sons, Alaa and Gamal, for 15 days on charges of ordering the shooting of protesters during the 25 of January revolution as well as on financial corruption charges. Alaa and Gamal are to be detained at the Tora prison in Helwan, where they will join a host of former officials imprisoned there on different charges. Mubarak himself will stay under arrest at the Sharm El-Sheikh international hospital, where he was transferred Tuesday over a minor heart attack which he suffered as he was being questioned by prosecutors.
The decision to summon Mubarak and his two sons to face the charges followed the former President's first media appearance since his forced stepping down on 11 Feb., in which he claimed that the huge wealth amassed by him and his family was legitimate, and that all their assets are in Egypt.
Getting Mubarak to trial has been one of the major demands of the Egyptian revolution, and the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces ruling the country in the interim has assured that nobody will escape justice.
