Niamey, Niger - The Nigerien opposition parties, under the umbrella Alliance for National Reconciliation (ARN), has turned down an offer by new President, Mahamadou Issoufou, to participate in his administration, ARN said in a communiqué received Wednesday to PANA. According to the communiqué, the ARN, however, praised the president for his overtures but said it preferred to remain in the opposition.

Issoufou made his overtures after winning the 12 March presidential runoff vote against former prime minister Seini Oumarou.
