Kenya in Seychelles for 2014 World Cup qualifier - Kenya's senior national team, Harambee Stars, are in Seychelles for Friday's 2014 World Cup pre-qualifier first-leg match. The team, led by Football Kenya Limited (FKA) vice-chairman, Sammy Shollei, departed to Seychelles Thursday morning.
Kenya take on the host, Victoria, Friday, hosting the Indian Ocean side in the return match in Nairobi on Tuesday.
The winner of the match will advance into the qualifier proper. Save for attacking midfielder MacDonald Mariga, who was knocked out by a thumb injury in Spain, the rest of the foreign-based players, including team captain Dennis Oliech, are in the team.
Mariga turns out for Spanish La Liga side Real Sociedad, while striker Oliech plays for French Lique 1 club, AJ Auxerre.
Kenya failed to qualify for the 2012 African Cup of Nations finals, to be co-hosted by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea. Friday's match will be the first key test for new coach Francis Kimanzi, who took charge of the team a week ago. Kimanzi, 35, a Kenyan who trained in Holland, replaced Zedekiah 'Zico' Otieno, who was kicked out by the newly-elected FKA.
