Cotonou, Benin - Members of the new Beninese government, appointed 28 May, have sworn to be committed to a code of conduct, called 'operating charter of government'. The charter, copy of which was sent to PANA, focuses on 'conscience, competence, integrity, dedication and loyalty in the interest and respect for the common good,' which are said to be essential objectives for the achievement of the legitimate aspirations of the Beninese people under the Constitution. Under the charter, 'any decision, action or task must form part of and pursued with the view of public interest, according to the requirements and standards of rigour and quality that justify the resources mobilized.'
In strict compliance with established rules, in respect of the sovereign people’s right to information, each member of the government must report on the activities of his department.
