Kenya's deputy Chief Justice apologizes over gun drama - Kenya’s Deputy Chief Justice and Supreme Court Judge Nancy Baraza Wednesday apologized for treating a female guard rudely at a luxury shopping mall frequented by diplomats in the nation's capital, Nairobi. The top judicial officer allegedly reprimanded the female guard, Rebecca Morara, after she approached Baraza for a body check when she entered a popular pharmacy at the Village Market, located in the upscale Gigiri suburb.
Local newspapers reported the incident, triggering angry reactions on the social media network, especially after Morara quit her job due to the incident.
“I certainly had no intention of high-handedness, arrogance or ill-will,' Baraza said
Justice Baraza, a prominent gender rights activist who formerly chaired the Federation of Kenyan Women Lawyers, said she was taking extra security measures after a series of incidences near her office and on her person.
“At this point, it would be inappropriate and prejudicial to make further comment on a matter which is under police investigation,' she said in a statement, adding: 'Let us allow the police investigation in this matter to be completed without interference.'
The female guard accused the Deputy Chief Justice of pinching her on the nose and using a pistol to threaten her. The judge is reported to have wondered why the guard failed to recognize her.
